selected analytical theme map plates generated using the digital atlas at different

levels. A brief note on each of the analytical map plates are given in the appendix.
The first part has 25 map plates that are covering the basic geographic

background of the ten southern districts of Tamilnadu, the study area as one unit. The
second part depicts 15 map plates that spatially bring out the salient features of the 22

themes considered at each district level. Similarly the third part depicts 10 map plates

representing the 17 themes pertaining to each one of the community development
blocks belonging to each district in total 120 blocks belonging to all the ten southern

districts of Tamilnadu. While the fourth part comprises of 16 Map plates depicting the
analytical thematic maps representing the outcome of various study results at different

levels viz. Inter-district, district, intra-district and C.D. block level. These map plates

are infact generated by using the digital atlas with the help of suitable analytical
software. The information given in the atlas could be updated and enhanced by using

suitable software both spatially and temporally with the help of more recently
generated database or database pertaining to the past years available in the format at

hand. The entire hard copy of the atlas can be gone through by layman. Whereas the
softcopy of the digital atlas can be viewed and used by the planners, students, research

scholars and all other users by installing the CD in any PC.
