Brief Profile of the Department


                     The Department of Telugu & Comparative Literature has been started way back in the year 1971. The Dept. Faculties have translated Tolkappiam, Tirukkural, Tiruppaavai, Sri Sadguru Thyagarajaswamy Kirthanans, Katamarajan kathai, Puyal, Prathapa Modaliyar Caritra. Dr.S.Jayaprakash, Professor (Rtd), received Kendriya Sahitya Academy Award on 2012, for his translation of Prathapa Modaliyar Caritra. Two works of Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam, have been translated into Tamil viz., Tirucchanooru Kshetra Mahima (2014) and Sri Venkateshwara Kainkaryangal (2015) by Dr.J.Venkataramana and Dr.P.P.Sudarsan of Sanskrit. These are major important works and besides this there are many works the Department has undertaken, completed and published. The Department is now concentrating on Comparative Dravidian Literature and Translation studies. The Department has already organized National Seminars and Regional Seminars on various aspects funded by different agencies. The Department staff participated in many National and International Seminars, conducted in many places and presented valuable research papers. A National Seminar is jointly organized on 2015 on Epic Literature in Kannada and Telugu, by the departmens of Kannada, Telugu and V.K.Gokak Trust, Haveri. A National Seminar is jointly organized on 2017 on Comparative Study of Kanaka Tiruvalluvar Vemana, by the departmens of Kannada, Telugu and Kanakadasa Trust, Bengalore.
