Brief Profile of the Department

Department of Communication:
Department of Communication was established in the year of 1991. The Dept. offers 1. M.Sc., E – Media Communications ( Elecronic Media and Communication), 2. M.Phil - Communication Studies and 3. Ph.D. (Full-Time and Part -Time) with the wide range of Specializations in the Mass Communication Discipline.

The courses of the Dept. have been designed as per the CBCS pattern to cater for the manpower needs in electronic, online and print media. The courses have academic and practical approaches in the fields of Photography, Videography, Writing, Editing, Documentary and Short film making, in order to offer knowledge and skill to improve the ability to practice independently and increase the employability of students. Internship Trainings in TV, Radio and in Film Production also help students of the department to get updated knowledge in the industry.

Earlier the Dept. offered a course in Visual Communication and now the Dept. specializing the subject areas of Mass Communication, Electronic Media, and Visual Media. The department is fully equipped with LCD projector, Multimedia Lab, Library and Video Camera. Prof. Dr. Sasireka and Prof. Dr. T. Manonmani served as Heads of the Dept. of Communication earlier.

After completion of the M.Sc., E- Media Communications course, students can choose to be in the following organizations of media: Television, Radio Stations, Graphics & Animation Industries, Print Media and Online News Media houses, Mass Media Organizations, Advertising Agencies, Sound and Video Editing, Film Post Productions, Web Designing, E-Content Development & Videography units.
