NCSWNMMB-2023
Concurrent Session on Display of Medicinal Plants during the "First day poster session. It provides an opportunity to place the plants having medicinal and pharmacological importance from all different parts of India. Special awards will be given for best presentation.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The National Seminar on "Sustainable Wellness through Noni, Medicinal Plants, Microbes and Bio-molecules" is organized by School of Biological Sciences Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai in collaboration with International Society for Noni Science and World Noni Research Foundation, Chennai on 02 & 03 November, 2023 at the campus of Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

The two days deliberations will help us to understand the concept postulated as early 400BC by Hippocrates- "Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food'. We are currently witnessing a reappraisal of the complementarity of nutrition and pharmacology. There is an increasing awareness that typical multifactorial disorders require subtle, multiple target pharmacological approaches. The contribution of Noni, Medicinal Plants and Microbial Molecules is one of the important Biomedicine to health and wellness is well known.

MADURAI KAMARAJ UNIVERSITY

Madurai Kamaraj University is on its relentless journey for the past 53 years surmounting hurdles of indigenous and exotic nature on its way and has passed through the tests of accreditation towards reaching the status of excellence. University is aware that the process of achieving excellence is continuous and therefore, all efforts are in progress to keep up the momentum.

Established in 1966, Madurai Kamaraj University as a State University attained the status of University with Potential for Excellence for ‘Teaching, Research and Outreach’ in 2007. The University is governed by Acts, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations. The University has been accredited with “A++” grade in the 4th cycle (2021) by NAAC. In the 2017 Golden Jubilee Convocation, 809 Ph.D. Scholars were awarded doctoral degrees. In the "SWACHHTA" Ranking of Higher Educational Institutions in the Country, the HRD Ministry awarded Second Rank to the University in the category of Government Institutions on 14th September 2017

SCHOOL OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

The School of Biological Sciences, Madurai Kamaraj University, had a humble origin in the early 60's as the postgraduate extension centre of the Zoology department of the Madras University at Madurai. The man in command was Prof. S. Krishnaswamy, popularly known as SK. He was a dreamer and a visionary. At a time, perhaps even now, when the teaching of life sciences was compartmentalized into Botany, Zoology, Microbiology etc., he conceived the idea of teaching Biology as an integrated discipline. For him Botany, Zoology etc., was nothing more than different ways of looking at the same thing, namely, the living state

The University of Madras opened the post graduate extension centre at Madurai during the year 1962.The Zoology Department had two illustrious faculty members:(Late) Prof.S.Krishnasamy; and S.V.Job. When the post graduate extension center of Madras University blossomed into nascent Madurai University in 1966,a new epoch in biology education began. Prof.S.Krishnasamy believed what really mattered in biology education was the totally of the living state rather than rigid and watertight compartmentalization of knowledge into botany and zoology. Therefore first ever integrated department of biological sciences came into being with induction of additional faculty representing plant sciences, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, ecology, molecular biology and behavioural sciences. consequently the department grew in science. Consequently the department grew in size ,stature, expertise and interests, so much so a composite school of Biological Science(SBS) was established in1977.It has produced six vice chancellors, four Bhatnagar awardees ,seven TANSA awardees, fellows of National and international Science Academies and members in national funding agencies..

WORLD NONI RESEARCH FOUNDATION

World Noni Research Foundation (WNRF) WNRF, Chennai, is the pioneer and world leader in conducting and promoting research and development on Noni plant and its products National Symposia "Noni Search" is being organized every year: the first one was held at Hyderabad in 2006, the second at Chennai in 2007 with a theme "Noni for Health and Wellness, the third at New Delhi with a theme "Noni for Nutrition and Health in 2008, the fourth at Chennai with the theme "Non for Empowerment and Prosperity" in 2009 and the fifth as First World Noni Congress-2010 at Chennai with a theme "Noni for Global Wellness", the sixth at Chennai with the theme "Noni- A Panacea for Wellness' and the seventh at Chennai with the theine "Noni A Tool for Wellness and the eighth and the present one with the theme "Noni for Sustainable Wellness". The Proceedings of all the symposia held so far reveal the achievements made so far on research and development front on Noni. WNRF in collaboration with International Society for Noni Science continues to organize the National Symposia which serve as a platform to share the knowledge and experience gained

INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR NONI SCIENCE

ISNS is a registered society having more than 1500 members from India and abroad. It publishes a six-monthly journal and a newsletter viz. International Journal of Noni Research and ISNS News Major objective of ISNS is to recognize and support excellence in scientific research and development in the field of Non, and other medicinal plant by individual scientists, inter disciplinary teams, institutions of higher learning, professional societies, Industries, progressive farmers and others interested on any aspect of Noni and medicinal plants.
