Guidelines for Admissions of International Students

The procedure for the admission of International students to various Master’s courses and Ph.D programs in Madurai Kamaraj University under “Study in India” were adopted based on the General Guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The procedure will be updated/modified time to time based on the Statutory and Regulatory Directives from these Govt. Institutions.


The Office

The International Students Affairs (ISA) Office of Madurai Kamaraj University will provide necessary guidance for admissions of International students in Post Graduate (PG) and Ph.D. Programs. All official letters relating to international students should be addressed to The Registrar, Madurai Kamaraj University. Informal enquiries can be made to the ISA office, which provide necessary guidance for securing admission.

International Students Admission

Madurai Kamaraj University allocates 15% of seats for International students. This includes Foreign Citizens, Person of Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Non-Resident Indian (NRI) and NRI-sponsored candidates (the sponsorer must be a foreign national or hold NRI status).

PG programs

i. The admissions for PG programs will be on a first-cum-first serve basis provided the candidate meets the eligibility requirements of respective programs as stipulated by the regulatory bodies of Madurai Kamaraj University.

ii. There will be NO entrance examinations for International students, if they apply directly from their home country (Single window admissions).

iii. International students who pursued their undergraduate degree within India should write the entrance examination to qualify for the respective courses.

iv. Students granted admission to a particular course after paying the fee shall not be allowed to change the course.

v. Transfer from one institution to another within India is not allowed.

Ph.D. programs

i. The students should submit a Statement of Purpose (SOP) (maximum 500 words) online along with the application.

ii. There will be NO entrance examination for the International Students who completed their Master’s degree in their respective countries and directly applying for Ph.D.

iii. International students who completed their Master’s program within India should write the entrance examination for the Ph.D. program (conducted during July-August every year).

iv. The students should upload resume or curriculum vitae and minimum of two Letters of Recommendation.

Eligibility

i. The International students applying for either PG courses or PhD should get an Equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Unversities (AIU). For more details visit www.aiu.ac.in

ii. Degree certificates and the year-wise academic transcripts should be duly authenticated by the Indian Embassy in the Country or Foreign Mission in India.

Admission Procedure

i. The International Students seeking admission in Madurai Kamaraj University should apply between January-March.

ii. The International Students should apply online for both PG and PhD programs.

iii. After verifying the online application and other documents, the ISA office will issue a Conditional letter of Selection for the program.

iv. The students should pay all the prescribed fee for complete program period of two years.

v. All the necessary documents authenticated and the equivalence certificate(s) should be uploaded.

vi. After verifying the application, other documents and the prescribed fee, a provisional admission letter will be sent to the students from The Registrar. This is required to apply and get visa and to complete other formalities.

vii. Students should report to the ISA office within 7 days of arrival in India. Within this time the students should register in the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) of the local Police.

viii. Students should bring all the orginal documents along with a photocopy duly attested.

ix. The international students should undergo Medical Examination and obtain Medical Certificate. As per the government rules all International students entering India on student visa should be tested for HIV and the admission will be terminated if found positive.

x. Admission of international students will be confirmed provided the students fulfill the requirements, verification of original certificates, medical fitness and payment of required fees.

Fees

i. The International students should pay the fees in US dollars. In special cases payment of fees in the equivalent Indian Rupees may be considered.

ii. The student should pay the Application and Processing Fee US$ 200 while applying online.

iii. The course fee and the other fee for the selected programs should be paid immediately after receiving the conditional letter of selection. The provisional admission letter will be sent only after verifying the payment of fee. The fee structure is available online in the University web site.

iv. For Medical Examination the student should pay US$ 50 and the examination will be done in the University Medical Center.

v. All the fee can be made by Demand Drafts in USD in favor of The Registrar, Madurai Kamaraj University.

Examination and Award of Degrees

The procedure for examinations, payment of examination fee, issue of mark statements and passing certificates and award of degrees remains same for all the students of Madurai Kamaraj University.

Discipline

The International students should follow the Academic Calendar and have to complete the course as per the prescribed deadline. All the students should abide by all the rules and regulations and the code of conduct of Madurai Kamaraj University.

Conclusion

In case of differences in the interpretation of the rules for the International Students the International Student Affairs decision stands final. The fees are liable to revision when and where applicable and the decision of the Madurai Kamaraj University is final.
