About Us



The Centre for Educational Research, Madurai Kamaraj University (CER-MKU) is a practical expression of the great visionary Thiru K. Kamaraj's commitment to the cause of education. The Centre is unique as it is the first-of-its-kind in the universities of the entire nation. The Centre, in line with the dreams cherished by Thiru K. Kamaraj, the former Chief-Minister of Tamil Nadu aims to strive for excellence in educational research and undertakes multidisciplinary research on problems, processes and phenomena in the interface between education and the larger society, providing inputs to policy - making.

The Centre for Educational Research is initiated on July 15th 2006 during the 104th birthday celebrations of Thiru K. Kamaraj. Subsequently, the Government of Tamil Nadu released a grant of Rupees One Crore towards the establishment of the Centre through a Gazette Notification in December 2006. The Syndicate of Madurai Kamaraj University in its meeting held on 20.11.2007 nominated a Director to launch the Centre. The Centre was formally inaugurated on 15th July 2008 during the 106th birthday celebrations of Thiru K. Kamaraj.

Moto

The Centre for Educational Research will act as a ‘Think tank’ and the major objectives of the Centre are:

to look into the Research issues concerning education in an integrated manner.

to spread quality education consciousness at grassroots.

to undertake and support collaborative research projects.

to disseminate the findings from research in education.

to assist State Government in all matters of education at all levels by making linkage and collaboration with the State Government.

to establish the educational data base.

Vision

The Centre shall be the state level organization for undertaking and promoting research and development in education. It shall assist and advise the state on all matters relating to education at all levels. It will also function as a 'Think Tank' on education at the state level

Mission

The Centre shall endeavor to transform the educational system by its comprehensive research for development and dissemination activities. In this endeavor the Centre shall focus on programmes, projects and methodologies that are appropriate for the State of Tamil Nadu.

The Centre “looks into issues concerning education in an integrated manner and its main aim will be to spread quality education at grassroots”.

Programmes of the Centre are projected by international collaborations, organizing seminars, symposia, special lectures on upcoming themes for research by national and international level experts, brain storming sessions, workshops, colloquia and training.

Dissemination for Social Transformation: Research findings are appropriately disseminated for social transformation.

Future Plans

Organizing short-term courses in Research methodology in Education.

Collection and compilation of Abstracts of Ph.D. theses awarded in Education in the Universities of Tamil Nadu from the year 2000 & publication of the Ph.D. abstracts in Education for wide dissemination for educational practitioners.

Undertaking policy–oriented and issue-based of Research Projects by the faculty members of CER.

Increasing the number of subscriptions of International Journal of Educational Research, Development and Extension (IJERDE) journal.

Organizing seminar on Psychology Tests for Teacher Educators.

Organizing seminars on NAAC Accreditation preparation of self-study Reports for colleges.
