Profile of the School

Department of Malayalam

   Established in the year 1972 with one faculty, had been subsequently strengthened with five faculty members. This Department, a part of the School of Indian Languages is now Offering M.A , M. Phil Courses and Ph.D Programs besides conducting Certificate and Diploma Courses. It has produced 13 Ph.D in the field of Language and Literature, more than 120 M.Phil Degree holders and about 140 Post-graduates. The faculty members have published 17 books and around 90 research papers. The Department has organized seven national and regional level seminars. The faculty members and symposia in different parts of India. The Department has also been actively involved in extension activities and organizing lectures. On cultural aspects, Onam celebration is one of the ethnic events which is successfully organized and celebrated every year with all its cultural flavours.

Department of Telugu

    was started way back in the year 1971. The Dept. Facilities have translated Tolkappiam, Tirukkural, Tiruppavai, Sri Sadguru Thyagarajaswamy Kirthanans, Katamarajan kathai, Puyal, Prathapa Mudaliyar Caritra. These are major important works and besides this there are many works the Department has undertaken, Completed and Published. The Department is now concentrating on Comparative Dravidian Literature and Translation Studies.

    The Department has already organized Seven National Seminars and nearly fifteen Regional Seminars on Various aspects funded by UGC, C.I.I.L ., Mysore, Telugu University, Hyderabad , M.K University Madurai, Kannada University Hampi, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, Tirupati and other National Seminar is Scheduled to take place in the month of march funded by our University, in collaboration with Dravidian University, Kuppam. The Department staff participated in many National and International Seminars, Conducted in Many palces and presented Valuable research papers.

Department of Kannada

    was started in the year 1972 with one faculty. During Vth and VIth plan periods, UGC has sanctioned a Lecturer in each plan. The Department is Conducting two year PG Course besides M.Phil, Ph.D Programme. The Department has already earned reputation by the translation of Books like Thirukural, Kurunthogai into Kannada and Translation of Thirukural in Tulu Language, Tamil Kannada Bilingual Dictionary got completed and also carried out comparative study of Tamil and Kannada by the Department. Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka state has released one time Grant of Rupees One Crore for the over all developments of the Department of Kannada, Madurai Kamaraj University, including the appointments of Teaching staff in the month of May 2009.

Department of Sanskrit

    since its incision in 1971 along with the Departments of South Indian Languages under the administrative jurisdiction of the School of Indian Languages has served the noble cause of holistic education and philogical expertise catering excellently to the growing need for cultural identity and scientific base in the modern scenario. In the Process it has established and continues to inculcate values of national and cultural integration set by the timeless literature of the Vedas and the corroborative aphoristic classical literature.
