lCT enabled Teaching- Learning

The Madurai Kamaraj University has established 82 Smart Class Rooms in all the 20 Schools offering 41 programmes at the rate of 2 class rooms for I and II year students of the P.G. programme under the financial assistance of RUSA. These Smart Class Rooms have just been inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor-Chancellor at 9.45 a.m. on this memorable day of 51st Annual Convocation. It is a huge paradigm shift from the conventional mode of "Monolog type Teacher-centric class room lecture" to "Interactive Lecture, Board capture, Document storage, Digital document sharing". The internet and wi-fi facility would enable the simple forwarding of all lecture files, board captured notes to the students in a single step after the lectures.
The currently procured collection of 4000 e-books of 2017 edition would also be accessible from these Smart Class Rooms.

Students Counselling Cell of Madurai Kamaraj University is functioning at the University’s Health Centre so that the needy student/scholar can approach and seek the help without any inhibitions and hesitance just like visiting a Hospital for any physical ailment.

All the twenty Schools of Madurai Kamaraj University will have a Teacher Counsellor’ each and they will remain in close touch with the students of the concerned School to cater to their emotional and intellectual needs. Students and Scholars of the School can contact their Teacher Counsellors and share their problems and academic worries.

Village Adoption

The Madurai Kamaraj University's outreach programmes have been given a facelift by the increased pace and quantum of activities aimed through the empowerment of villages. For the knowledge and technology transfer to villages, the University and its affiliated colleges have adopted 421 villages. The farmers in the villages will be given training in production of biopesticides, biofertilizers and vermiculture which can create regular self income and/or employment opportunities as it provides never ending market potential.

Youth Red Cross


The Red Cross Society is a worldwide, well known, universally accepted, admired and internationally identified humanitarian service organisation. It is the biggest, independent non-religious, non-political, non-sectarian and voluntary relief organisation treating people equally all over the world without any discrimination as to their nationality race and religion beliefs. It was established in 1863 in Geneva, Switzerland. The Father of Red Cross movement and recipient of noble award for peace in 1901 was “Jean Henry Dunant”, who was a successful businessman.

National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year, 1969. In May 1969, a conference of student representatives (of universities and institutions of higher education) convened by the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission also unanimously agreed that a national-service scheme could be an instrument for national integration. The details were soon worked out and the Planning Commission sanctioned an outlay of ₹5 crores for the NSS during the Fourth Five-Year Plan, stipulating that the NSS be a pilot project in select institutions and universities. On 24 September 1969, the then Union Education Minister V.K.R.V. Rao launched the NSS at 37 universities in all states.

Music Troop

As per the orders of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, we have formed a music orchestra in the name of MKU Music Troop with forty members to promote and channelize the young and energetic talents of the students of the University. This music troop shall include musicians, singers and dancers of all varieties.
As a part of this, the members shall be given regular training by using experts from outside and also plan to provide all kinds of music instruments to the members of the troop. A uniform dress code has also been designed by the University. This music troop will periodically perform programs for celebrations and occasions which are going to be held on the campus of Madurai Kamaraj University. These performances include light music, classical vocal and dances of all kinds using musical instruments.
